An autistic man who recently left university is reportedly longing for the halcyon days of having unfettered access to academic journals.

Onye Egbuchunam, 21, spent much of his sociology degree browsing articles in fields he wasn’t studying, just because he could. According to Egbuchunam, being able to read about anything he wanted, any time, was “The closest thing I ever got to believing in an abundant Universe.”

Egbuchunam said: “There was so much knowledge at my fingertips, but I knew that when my uni account expired, I’d lose access to it forever. A fleeting joy, much like life itself.”

“What do people do for fun if they can’t chart psychology’s replication crisis through decades of research papers? What do you mean, ‘They read Mindhunter fanfiction’? Get the fuck out of my house!”

At the time of writing, Egbuchunam was reportedly considering a Masters degree just to get back onto PubMed and also avoid the soul-crushing job market for a bit longer.
