An autistic man’s carefully-considered travel route is set to take 20 years longer than the non-accessible alternative, it has been rumoured.
Paul Shinter, 46, is heading to his friend’s house across what is ostensibly a well-connected city, but his difficulty with taking the London Underground at peak times means he must instead take a bus, then a train, then a ferry which he has to steer carefully between the sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis, before getting another bus and a tram.
Shinter said: “I’m just trying to avoid having a meltdown before I get there, which I think is reasonable. I don’t have the money to keep getting cabs everywhere, so my only option is to take my chances traversing myriad strange and untouched lands.”
“It’s added… let me check… two decades to the usual journey. Great. Guess I’ll tell my mate to get the barbecue going without me.”
Before embarking, Shinter paused to text his partner, 47-year-old Talia Cohen, to ask if she wouldn’t mind taking the chicken out of the freezer in about 19 and a bit years.
