An allistic woman with a tragically autistic nephew has reportedly been left “angry, scared and without assistance from appropriate authorities” after a group of autistic creatives have made an audio sitcom about autistic people that’s actually FOR autistic people.

It’s a Superpower?? created by the team of troublemakers behind The Daily Tism and A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs, follows a ragtag group of autistics who meet at an autism support group, accidentally acquire (useless) magic powers and are tasked with saving the world from a very neurotypical apocalypse – and, disgustingly, isn’t even about the personal journey of a put-upon caregiver.

Karen Hoyland, 57, who raises awareness on Instagram approximately 3,789 times per day under the moniker AuntieVaxx, said: “I listened and was outraged that it wasn’t even about a relative unexpectedly taking on the burden of a child with autism. Who am I supposed to root for? One of THEM?”

“I only tuned in because I thought they were taking the pi… uh… raising awareness. The only thing they raised was my blood pressure. How dare they make fun of autism? That’s my job.”

“Honestly it’s a disgrace,” Hoyland continued. “They can’t be writing and performing their own stories. What if they start taking up TV development slots too? They’re meant for people like me to write adult women based on their seven-year-old nephews with autism.”

Showrunner and writer Sara Gibbs, 39, attempted to comment with more about the story, characters, cast, crew and inexplicable A-list celebrity cameos, but couldn’t be heard over the sound of Hoyland’s ranting.

Gibbs eventually managed to blurt out: “WAIT! Come to our virtual world premiere this evening at 6pm BST on Patreon – it’s free! IT’S FREE!” before she was dragged away by the fire brigade.

The show was created by Sara Gibbs and Andrew Hickey and written by The Daily Tism co-editor, Sara Gibbs, with additional material from the best of the best of the UK’s autistic comedy writing scene. It was produced by Gibbs with Hare Lockwood and Sarah Amero and directed by Gibbs and Amero.
