A newly diagnosed autistic woman has been subjected to vile threats of “help” and “support” from other people, according to sources.
Miya Wilkes, 23, has reportedly been met with intimidating warnings like “You’ll finally get the help you need!” after telling others about her recent autism diagnosis. Wilkes says she is “terrified” of what this could entail, but knows it cannot be good if the last few weeks are anything to go by.
Wilkes said: “People keep saying that my diagnosis will lead to support, but so far I’ve just gotten a referral for CBT with someone who may not know anything about autism, a link to an outdated NHS webpage and a vague signpost to an autism charity so that I can… look at pictures of smiling children?”
“I haven’t gotten ‘the help I need’ yet, and no one can tell me what that actually is, so I assume it’s something horrible. Military bootcamp? Bushtucker trial? A spoken word night?”
Wilkes’ mother Deborah Wilkes, 56, said: “I’m delighted for Miya. She’s finally going to get… er… something!”
