Beloved long-running adventure series Celestial Stroll is to introduce its 14th autistic-coded alien species, its creators revealed at a convention this weekend.
Head writer Jack Harrington, 52, told excited fans: “We are delighted to introduce new species ‘the Autisticons’! We’re going to follow a young man, Flappy, and he’s very literal, has loads of misunderstandings, speaks in a monotone, and he’s just going to get into all kinds of scrapes with the – y’know – normal people!”
“The Autisticons join our pantheon of non-human creatures who are ‘kind of autistic’,” Harrington added. “We’ve already got the android who just wants to learn what it means to be human, the fearsome warrior who doesn’t get our humour, and the cyborg whose blunt language and communicative differences can’t take away from her great rack.”
“All of these characters are quirky, have a lot of heart, and are fan favourites,” Harrington continued. “But most importantly we can use them as comic foils, or get them to just ‘act weird’ in scenes without anyone accusing us of ableism. If we told the audience they were autistic, we’d get in real trouble for adding those comedy trombone noises.”
Actor Jun-Seok Kim, 20, said that they were excited to bring this new character to life. “I researched the role by meeting my dentist’s neighbour’s nephew for fifteen minutes! It was very tragic, but very inspiring. Actually, ‘I’m inspiring’ is my character’s catchphrase!”
