A woman who disclosed her diagnosis of autism at work was reportedly shocked when her colleagues weren’t even a little bit weird about it.

Paige Thomas, 37, decided to tell colleague Navya Randhawa, 29, about her autism while the two were out at a work lunch. Thomas was reportedly left speechless by Randhawa’s answering smile and “Oh, cool!”, as she had been expecting a hush to fall over the conversation followed by that look that signifies someone has decided never to engage with you again.

Thomas said: “In that moment I discovered that thinking autism warrants social exclusion is actually not a universal thing and some people will just accept it as a piece of biographical information rather than a black mark against your name.”

“I kept wanting to ask, are you sure you’re fine with this? You don’t want to write me off even a little bit? But Nav just kept talking about Sinners as though I were a real human person just like her.”

Randhawa commented: “Finding out Paige is autistic hasn’t changed my opinion of her at all. I thought she was a weirdo long before that.”
