A community LGBTQ+ Pride event this week has been revealed to also be a celebration of and by neurodivergent people, entirely by accident, when they discovered nearly all of the LGBTQ+ people there were autistic as hell.

Eyewitnesses claimed that questions were raised during the initial parade, due to an abundance of brightly coloured clothes, sunglasses, placards with niche references, and very low levels of eye contact or people willing to march next to the speakers. An hour into the event, the true impact of the accidental double event was revealed by Sabeen Bhatt, 28, accountant, part-time plucky amateur sleuth and full-time autistic bisexual.

“At first I thought it was just normal Pride stuff,” said Bhatt. “half of us dressed like an explosion at a rainbow tulle factory and unicorn petting zoo, the other half goths dressed like Victorian ghosts – but then I thought ‘hang on, I’ve seen these fashion choices before’.” Bhatt told reporters that when she talked to others at the post-parade picnic, she realised that the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent elements of the event’s Venn Diagram were practically one big circle.

“Thinking about it, most of the autistic people I know are LGBTQ+ and vice versa, so it makes sense that everyone here is neurodivergent,” Bhatt told us. “Except for my wife, who’s severely neurotypical but I love her anyway. It’s nice to have one neurotypical here, for a bit of diversity. Also, she’s the only one not averse to the mouthfeel of the trifle, and otherwise it would go to waste.”

Bhatt’s severely neurotypical wife, Freya Emerson, 30, was approached for comment and smiled happily at us between spoonfuls of trifle; making full eye contact and somehow enjoying being in direct sunlight. “I don’t mind being the only neurotypical here at all,” she claimed. “I’m excited to be the one pulling the ‘ally’ card for a change. Plus I get this whole trifle to myself! The sensation of wet sponge doesn’t upset me at all! Happy Pride, everybody!”
