An autistic woman is suspicious of the person who started following her on a social media site she posts to publicly, according to sources.
Author Christine Smout, 43, was followed on Bluesky by someone she doesn’t know in real life, and has reportedly begun to wonder whether they meant to intimidate her or just send a subtle yet ominous warning.
Smout said: “I’d love to build a fanbase online, but I’d pictured my future fans as a faceless mass rather than individual people exercising their free will to engage with me. That’s just weird.”
“I follow plenty of people whose work I admire, but they’re famous and therefore not real. And at least I know where I stand with the bot accounts.”
Smout was last witnessed cowering in fear after someone reposted her.
