An autistic woman told by her therapist to “trust your instincts” is reportedly struggling to discern her instincts from her debilitating anxiety disorder.
Alma Montague, 34, could be holed up indoors with the curtains drawn because of her irrational terror of the outside world – but it could also be her gut telling her that everything’s gone screwy and it’s not safe out there.
Montague told us: “My inner wisdom is telling me to break up with my boyfriend, pack a bag and start a new life under the sea – but then it’s also telling me I need to peel this satsuma in one clean strip or my family will die.”
“A colleague invited me out for a coffee,” Montague continued. “She seems nice enough, but then again my gut is telling me to avoid it by setting myself on fire.”
“I don’t know if it’s self-preservation or anxiety,” Montague added. “But either way, my gut is telling me I need to make it to the loo in the next 30 seconds or there’ll be a disaster.”
Montague could not be reached for further comment as she was hyperventilating over her intuition that a plane was about to crash into her house.
