An autistic woman has been missold a horror movie, with the villain being much scarier than was advertised, it has been complained.

Merve Öztürk, 36, had never seen horror classic The Ring and so decided to give it a go, believing the villain to be a mistreated ghost child who simply crawls out of the TV to kill you if you get behind on your life admin. But Öztürk quickly discovered that the death threats issued by the little girl arrived in the form of an unsolicited phone call.

Öztürk explained: “The clue was in the title, but I had been led to believe it had something to do with a well. Not a single so-called friend who told me how good this movie was warned me.”

“The scariest part was when the phone was ringing and I didn’t know what she was going to say,” she continued. “It could have been anything. ‘Do you want to hang out on Saturday?’ ‘Where’s that book I lent you?’ ‘What do you think of my new boyfriend?’ He’s a fucking loser, Samara, don’t put me on the spot.”

“Then she left a voicemail. A VOICEMAIL! ‘You will die in seven days’. You’re telling me that couldn’t have been a text?”

“What am I planning to watch next? It was going to be The Shining but now I’m scared that’s just a movie about very bright lights.”
