An autistic woman has already contacted her therapist to arrange a session after spending Christmas in her childhood home, reports have indicated.

Miya Wilkes, 29, made the decision to return to her hometown of Runcorn during the festive period, in the vague hope that it might “feel different this year” – despite zero past  Christmases proving this might be the case.

Wilkes told us: “In June, I felt Tricia and I had come to a natural ending. Turns out we still had some unfinished business. I realised this specifically when I was ignored the entire day by my family, and was only briefly consulted when the TV remote stopped working.”

“My mother started comparing my childhood to hers when passing me the ovenproof dish filled with pigs in blankets, which I ignored,” Wilkes continued. “But gifting me that gratitude journal was a step too far.”

“My therapist advised me to revisit my inner child when it came to my mother,” Wilkes explained. “It’s a good job I didn’t, because she nearly threw a trifle at her.”

Miya’s mother Deborah Wilkes, 66, was overheard reminiscing about previous Christmases – conveniently forgetting she’d walked out on her entire family during two of them.
