A pair of world-famous magicians who charitably agreed to meet their “biggest autistic fan” immediately regretted their generosity after coming face to face with a large, hairy man named Wilder.
Renowned global superstar magicians Penn Jillette, 71, and Teller, 78, were reportedly more than happy to take time away from their Las Vegas residency, long-running TV shows and glittering guest appearances for a meet-and-greet with their biggest fan, especially since hearing the little guy was autistic!
When Penn and Teller encountered the fully grown man, it quickly became clear that his fervour, enthusiasm and poor handwriting had all led them to believe that they would be meeting a small child.
“We’re really busy, so our meet-and-greets are reserved for sick kids, or animals – like a horse with a limp or a sad-looking pangolin,” said Penn. “Unless… is this a Make a Wish thing?”
Wilder, 39, an unemployed and recently single autistic man with a large collection of robot cars, was reportedly beside himself to meet his heroes. “I’ve read all your books! I’ve seen all your TV shows! I’ve got a print of your appearances on The Simpsons framed on my bedroom wall!” he shrieked, right into their faces.
“I once spent a whole week trying to learn how to walk a coin along my knuckles. I lost SO much money under my sofa!” He added: “Can you fire a gun at me and I’ll catch the bullet in my teeth?”
“…” said Teller.
It’s a Superpower?? is the first ever sitcom by and for autistic people (poor things) and is available now wherever you get podcasts. If you can’t wait to find out what happens, you can listen to the whole thing early and ad-free at selected tiers on Patreon.
The show is a Daily Tism production, created by Sara Gibbs and Andrew Hickey of a History of Rock Music in 500 Songs and written by The Daily Tism co-editor, Sara Gibbs, with additional material from the best of the best of the UK’s autistic comedy writing scene.
It was produced by Gibbs with Hare Lockwood and Sarah Amero and directed by Gibbs and Amero. It stars our very own team members, Sarah Amero and Guy Kelly, along with Alasdair Beckett-King, John Butler, Stuart Laws, Georgia Mackenzie, Lizzie Schenk, Abigail Weinstock – and some frankly unbelievable A-list cameos.
