An autistic woman with a complex set of health conditions is idly wondering which of them will cause a catastrophic, cascading failure like the one in a popular children’s game, sources report.
Alma Montague, 37, has a lovely catchup planned with a friend, but does not expect to make it through the day intact. “I’m hoping to walk to the local café and meet a pal for lunch, so there’s so many possibilities for what could make my day implode,” she told us. “The walk or the cold outside could trigger muscle aches, the food and drink could set off my IBS, or the overhead lights in the cafe could start a headache. I’m basically the donkey from Buckaroo, and not just because of my plastic rictus grin and hair-trigger response.”
“The items that get piled onto me are all the comorbidities that I got free in my autism expansion pack,” she continued. “And then if I’m PMSing, my sensitivity levels get kicked up from ‘one’ to ‘three’ and that’s probably enough to cause a bucking! In keeping with the theme, I always try to lighten the mood before a meltdown by making a donkey noise.”
Montague added: “My life’s also quite like Kerplunk, because if you take away my support structures I will collapse into a big puddle of marbles. Or like Mousetrap, because I’ve lost half the pieces and can’t remember how it’s supposed to be set up. Or Frustration.”
At this point in the interview, Montague received an unexpected phone call, causing her to crumple to the floor with a gentle “Hee-haw!”.
