An autistic woman reportedly suspects she may have a secret admirer – the man she has been married to for six decades.

Christine Smout, 84, caught her husband Anand, 81, sneaking glances at her across the kitchen table. She thought nothing of it at first, but when she realised he’d been ending all of his text messages with exactly three kisses, she began to wonder if he had a crush on her.

Mrs Smout said: “I think Anand’s flirting with me, but I don’t want to misread the situation. What does it mean when someone asks for a cuddle? Does it just mean they’re cold and they’re hinting at you to turn the heating up?

“He keeps calling me his darling, or his sweetheart, or his greatest treasure. I think he’s forgotten my name and is just too embarrassed to ask.”

Mr Smout said: “I didn’t realise that ‘I love you and want to be with you for the rest of my life’ was so ambiguous. My bad.”
