A young woman is frequently disbelieved about her autism because she’s just too gosh darn attractive to be lumped in with the rest of us bridge trolls, it has been announced.
Paige Thomas, 24, meets all the diagnostic criteria for ASD, yet finds that many people, mainly men over the age of 45, consider her “too beautiful” to have something as icky as autism.
In a tearful Instagram story, Thomas commented: “I meet every conventional beauty standard. It’s a curse, really.”
“I see other autistic women full of self-loathing and battling body dysmorphia and I just can’t relate,” Thomas continued. “I only wish they could see themselves the way other people see me.”
“I did try to demonstrate my difficulties by crying in this video,” Thomas added. “But unfortunately I’m a really pretty crier.”
Thomas then started a Change.org petition to raise awareness of her plight, which at the time of writing had received up to three signatures.
