An autistic woman’s wardrobe consists of three things she can wear and about 50 she can’t, sources have said.
Sabheen Bhatt, 25, describes herself as a “shoptimist” with a penchant for itchy jumpers, trousers that are impossible to eat in, and dresses that could only be worn to a medieval jousting tournament. Most of Bhatt’s purchases languish in her wardrobe, ready to be given away once she finally accepts that she will never wear them.
Bhatt said: “I get these sudden urges to develop a completely new style – at the moment I’m thinking ‘Victorian raver with Vivienne Westwood flair’. So I just bought a few versatile staple pieces: a skirt with a bustle, fishnets and a latex crop top.”
“I’ve tried them on at home and they look great,” Bhatt continued. “Only a few bits actually hurt – some things just have a horrible texture that sets my teeth on edge, or make me cringe when I touch them, but the overall look… might work under very specific lighting. If only I wasn’t hypersensitive to that very specific lighting.”
“I don’t have anywhere to wear any of this, but I will soon, because I’m going to completely overhaul my lifestyle too.”
At the time of publication, Bhatt had not completely overhauled her lifestyle.
