An autistic woman whose government is desperate for her to experience the “dignity of work” cannot experience “dignity” and “work” at the same time, it has been claimed.
Megan Aldrich, 30, works full time in an attempt to avoid starving to death, but is forced to choose between showing up to work and being the sort of person who doesn’t cry in the shower.
Aldrich said: “I have two options. Either I can have a job and escape poverty by the skin of my teeth, or I can not have a job and feel healthy and well. There is no middle ground because working and caring for this meat suit are fundamentally incompatible, and I’m not getting a particularly good return on investment for either.”
Government spokesperson Eli Port said: “We know what disabled people want. Full-time jobs. They send us all those petitions because they don’t get to maximise stakeholder value nearly as often as they want to, which is probably in the UN Declaration of Human Rights along with everything else the government likes to ignore.”
“Everyone should be able to have a one-hour meeting that could have been an email, followed by seven hours of wondering when their boss will replace them with a robot.”
