A small Northern town with an unusually high proportion of autistic inhabitants is due to take part in the first ever Christmas light switch off, according to reports.
Known as the De-Luminations, locals will gather to see street lights dimmed and neon signs dulled during the festive period – as a mark of respect for the autistic community.
The switch-off will reportedly be attended by British band, Girls Aquiet – who are due to perform classic pop hits such as I’ll Stim By You and Can’t Speak Neurotypical.
“We tend to celebrate this time of year with obnoxiously neon Christmas trees,” neurotypical resident Deborah Whitehead, 48, explained. “This year, we’re not even allowed to have our LED Santa waving in his train – which you’d think the autistic community would like.”
Fellow allistic resident, Robert Noot, 52, commented: “How will I know it’s Christmas if I’m not having a mini-stroke?”
Witnesses reported members of the autistic community exclaiming: “Oooh! Aaaah!” as they were plunged into lovely darkness.
