An autistic man is overwhelmed by anxiety due to the job he has had for years and can do in his sleep, according to eyewitnesses.
IT technician Lucas Fletcher, 46, reportedly does not mind talking on the phone all day because he has seen and dealt with every single computing issue under the sun over the course of his career. However, the whole concept of being a person entrusted to do a job fills him with panic.
Fletcher said: “I know I can do my job, but… what if I can’t? Is my boss keeping me on as a joke and waiting to see if I’ll cotton on and go ‘haha, very funny, alright then, off to the Jobcentre I go’?”
“What’s killing me is the fear that no one will tell me I’m bad at my job. That they think I’m too weak to take it and they’re just keeping me on to make themselves look better. Nobody’s said as much, but there is an above-zero chance they could be thinking it.”
Fletcher’s boss Beth Hapworth, 60, said: “Lucas has the constitution of a chihuahua but by God if he’s not my best employee.”
