An autistic mum is happy to breastfeed while out and about, but even happier not to be out and about in the first place, sources have revealed.
Krista Shure, 32, believes passionately in a parent’s right to breastfeed wherever and whenever is most comfortable, and she has no qualms whatsoever about feeding in public. However, she also has no qualms about feigning embarrassment if it means she has an excuse to retreat to a quiet, enclosed space when it all gets a bit peopley.
“Sometimes I’m not even feeding the baby,” she confessed. “I pretend that I’m going to, but instead she has a kip and I have a nice rest while staring at the back of a cupboard door.”
“I did feel a bit guilty when my husband’s family were all making sympathetic comments about baby Avery’s four-hour feeding marathons, but in my defence, I was doing a rewatch of Battlestar Galactica on my laptop and they’d just landed on Earth.”
“I’m not sure what I’ll do when Avery’s weaned… Do you think anyone would believe me if I said I was breastfeeding the cat? He is just a little baby, after all.”
Shure’s cat was approached for comment but had gone into hiding.
