The makers of Autism have announced an add-on that allows players to bring premenstrual dysphoric disorder into their gaming experience, according to reports.

Players with the Menstrual Cycle hardware will be able to access the all-new PMDD expansion pack, which boasts a variety of new playstyles and customisation options. New features include the I’m a Disgusting Little Gremlin character pack, the Concerning Physical Symptoms minigame and a new original song, My Entire Life is a Mistake.

Lead game developer Megan Aldrich said: “We wanted to increase the difficulty level for those who felt that Autism wasn’t hard enough already. The PMDD Pack makes the entire game more challenging at regular intervals – making the anxiety and sensory issues even harder to navigate and sapping the Daily Cognitive Resources bar, which is already tiny.”

“Every part of your body will hurt in unique and interesting ways, your closest relationships will feel extremely tenuous for no reason, and you will plunge into a bottomless well of self-loathing,” promised Aldrich, adding that “you can’t uninstall it”.

The expansion pack plays throughout the main story, and only ends when the player commences the Menopause quest – which potentially promises even greater horrors. Commencing the optional Pregnancy sidequest momentarily pauses the PMDD storyline, but introduces the Uh Oh, Time to Get My Shit Together! quest.

Reviewers who accessed early copies of the game have already begun to express their disapproval: Krista Shure commented “It’s ruined the game completely,” while Kit McGodden said, “OH GOD MAKE IT STOP”.
