An autistic horror fan is reported to be astonished by the news that the immersive theatre horror experience she had signed up for was, supposedly, a “nourishing wellness retreat.”
The mix-up began when Niamh Callaghan, 32, was invited by her sister-in-law, Kelsey Dacey, 34, to join in with a “girls’ day”, erroneously setting the stage for what Callaghan assumed would be a terrifying thrill-fest.
“At first, I didn’t realise that Kelsey actually wanted me to come,” explained Callaghan, “because I’m definitely an adult woman. I assumed she’d added me to the WhatsApp group by mistake. When she explained it, though, it sounded properly gruesome and I was quite excited.”
“So we got there and it started with us all wearing a dressing gown in public. I don’t have much of a humiliation kink myself, but I’m pretty open-minded so I went along with it.”
“Once we had all put on our Public Dressing Gowns, we went through to what I can only describe as A Stranger Touches You Endlessly,” Callaghan continued. “It was horrific. I love all things dark and unusual but even I felt they were taking it a bit far.”
“Next up, we went for Hot Sweaty Death. You had to sit around making small talk while your skin slowly melted off your body. That was too much for me.”
Dacey added, “Niamh ran out of there, screaming, and we were all like, ‘what the hell?’ She knocked over my Prosecco.”
To recover from the experience, Callaghan has signed up for a relaxing weekend at a BDSM dungeon.
