An autistic woman has made the foolish and illogical assumption that other people consume media critically instead of taking everything at face value, it has been claimed.

Megan Aldrich, 33, was shocked to discover that, despite a long history of debunked headlines, Snopes-worthy urban legends and baseless moral panics, confirmation bias is still alive and well in people who really should know better.

Aldrich said: “You can’t seriously tell me that people are unquestionably adopting things into their belief systems because someone on TV or in the papers said them? I will never allow anyone to call me ‘gullible’ again.”

“Just because a news outlet claims to be impartial, that doesn’t make it impartial,” Aldrich continued. “It’s like when I told my sister her baby shower was ‘lovely’ when it was actually the most insufferable three hours of my life.”

“The only news source I consistently believe in is my own internal monologue, which tells me that I’ll never amount to anything, and that Timothée Chalamet is fully a lizard person.”
