A neurotypical woman furious that you just joked about your own disability has issued a statement demanding an apology for “making fun of autism”.
Karen Hoyland, 52, who overheard you making a crass, insensitive joke about your autism, also clarified that she is speaking on behalf of her nephew with autism, who you don’t speak for, because she does.
Hoyland’s statement read: “I wasn’t ‘eavesdropping on a conversation that’s none of my business’. When they mentioned autism, they MADE it my business.”
“Autism isn’t funny. My nephew has a really serious case of autism. His social skills are so bad that he blocked me on all social media platforms when I assume he was trying to follow me.”
“My nephew can’t even look me in the eye or hug me,” the statement continued. “In fact, he has so much autism that when he sees me, he just turns around and walks off in the other direction.”
Hoyland’s nephew, Finley Rice, 15, commented: “Your joke about food aversions was hilarious. Next, take down my Auntie Karen.”
