An autistic woman has reportedly been punished for experiencing a brief moment of joy by immediately remembering the impermanence of life and that one day everyone who exists, including her, will be dead.
Ffiona Maw, 42, experienced a fleeting moment of unbridled happiness while enjoying her weekly pizza from the really good pizza place, surrounded by her four cats as she watched Gilmore Girls – but quickly came to regret letting her guard down for a second.
Maw commented: “It’s not that I can’t be in the moment – it’s that the moment ends and then I’m in a different moment where nothing will ever be as good again. Happiness is ephemeral.”
“The pizza is gone and now all that’s left is regret and IBS,” Maw continued. “And soon it will return to the ocean – just like the proverbial wave that is my meaningless existence.”
“Dust in the wind,” Maw added. “All we are is dust in the wind. My four cats are dust in the wind. Why can’t cats live as long as people?”
Maw could not be reached for further comment, as she was sobbing into the fur of whichever cat happened to be the least squirmy.
