An autistic woman has been captured on her doorbell camera rehearsing social interactions, eyewitnesses have reported.
Emma Wilkes, 29, from Warrington – who installed the camera after a security scare – noticed last week that she’d been practising mini conversations with herself before entering her flat, and has been obsessively watching herself on loop ever since.
“You can hear me muttering under my breath, like I’m setting a curse on my nemesis,” Wilkes told us. “Except I’m just saying things like, ‘good thanks, how are you?’ and ‘bit nippy out there, isn’t it?’”
“Sometimes it’s a dress rehearsal for potential conversations I might have later,” Wilkes explained. “Other times I’m acting out an entire exchange that happened earlier, just to check that it went OK. Most of the time, it didn’t.”
According to sources, several burglars have entered and left the property undetected, due to Wilkes being preoccupied with critically analysing her conversational skills.
Wilkes added: “I really need to get better at this.”
